As of Saturday, Hessian health departments have reported more new Corona cases to the Robert Koch Institute than a week ago. The seven-day incidence has also increased. It testifies well 173 within week Corona new infections registered under 100,000 inhabitants. Seven days ago the value was 141. The average in the federation amounts to 277. Responsible for it are far overshooting incidences in Saxonia as well as regions in the south of Bavaria and in Thuringia. Rising incidences commonly attract more Covid patients to clinics.

The RKI reports 1959 new positive PCR tests for Hesse, following 1701 a week ago and 614 a month ago. Nearly 375,000 people in Hesse have officially contracted a variant of the coronavirus since the pandemic began last March. Twelve deaths linked to Covid-19 have been added, double the number reported seven days ago. All told, 7974 people in Hesse have died from or with the coronavirus so far, according to the RKI. That is 0.12 percent of the state population.

As usual, daily updated figures on the new guideline values of the Hessian Corona policy are not available from the Ministry of Social Affairs; the corresponding figures are only received after the update has been published. At last count, there were 214 corona patients in intensive care units, up from 224 the previous day, and 635 in normal wards in Hesse, though that is the status as of Friday. The president of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi) said Saturday that 210 beds were occupied, including 100 who were receiving invasive ventilation. However, she also reported lower data than the country on each of the previous days. The reason given is different counting methods.

The so-called hospitalization incidence, which is the Covid patients admitted by hospitals within a week per 100,000 population was 3.72 after 3.78. The highest values so far were slightly above 4, the threshold is eight.77.2 percent of eligible Hessians over the age of 12 are considered vaccinated, up 2.5 percentage points from seven days ago. Based on the state population, the figure is 66.6 percent, up from 66.2 percent a week ago, according to the RKI. 4.8 percent have received the booster vaccination.

In light of the Corona data, the three Green Party health ministers of Hesse, Brandenburg and Baden-Württemberg are jointly calling for the extension of the epidemic situation of national scope. In doing so, they are opposing the plans of the possible future traffic light government, which the Greens are also helping to negotiate.

"In view of the current infection dynamics and the burden on hospitals, which in some regions are already close to absolute overload, the epidemic situation of national scope should be extended," reads a statement by Kai Klose (Hesse), Ursula Nonnemacher (Brandenburg) and Manne Lucha (Baden-Württemberg) obtained by German Press Agency. "This ensures that all the measures called for by the experts can be implemented."
