Germany's Consumer Price Index Rises to 2.6% in December

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Germany experienced an increase, reaching an annual rate of 2.6% for December, up from 2.2% in November. This data was released by Destatis, the country's official statistics office, confirming preliminary estimates and aligning with analyst projections from FactSet.

On a month-to-month basis, the CPI rose by 0.5% in December, surpassing both the initial estimate and FactSet's predictions, which had anticipated a 0.4% increase.

According to Destatis, the average CPI index for the entire year of 2024 is projected to have risen by 2.2%, marking a substantial decline from the average rates of 5.9% in 2023 and 6.9% in 2022. Furthermore, the core CPI, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, recorded a 3.0% increase last year. This too shows a decrease when compared to the average of 5.1% in 2023 and 3.8% in 2022.
