BNDES Greenlights R$2.1 Billion Financing for Embraer

Mon 27th Jan, 2025

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has officially approved a significant financing package amounting to R$ 2.1 billion for Embraer, a leading aircraft manufacturer. This funding will facilitate the export of 16 E-175 aircraft to Republic Airways, a prominent U.S. airline that exclusively operates Embraer planes.

According to BNDES, the funds will be used throughout 2025 for the delivery of these aircraft. Notably, Republic Airways has entered into a commitment to repay the loan in U.S. dollars, which is expected to bolster Brazil's foreign currency reserves.

BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante emphasized the importance of Embraer as a key player in Brazil's export economy, citing that the company is the country's leading exporter of high-value goods and maintains over 87% of its workforce within Brazil, totaling around 21,000 employees.

Furthermore, Francisco Gomes Neto, the CEO of Embraer, highlighted that this strategic support from BNDES is crucial for enhancing the company's competitive edge in the global market, enabling it to offer financing options comparable to international competitors.

Republic Airways is recognized as one of the largest regional airlines in the United States, boasting a fleet that includes more than 200 E-170 and E-175 aircraft. The airline operates approximately 900 daily flights across over 80 cities in the U.S. and Canada, making it a significant player in the regional aviation sector.

Since 1997, BNDES has reportedly extended around US$ 26 billion in loans to Embraer, which has supported the export of more than 1,300 aircraft, solidifying the company's role in international aviation.
