Boleto Outpaces Pix as Preferred Payment Method for Brazilian Companies
In the landscape of corporate financial transactions in Brazil, the boleto bancário remains the favored payment method, surpassing the increasingly popular Pix system. A recent study conducted by Qive, in collaboration with Endeavor, reveals that 65% of Brazilian companies rely on boletos for their payment processes, while only 33% opt for Pix and a mere 2% utilize credit cards.
The research highlights several reasons for the continued dominance of boletos among businesses. Security concerns and compatibility with existing financial systems are primary factors influencing this trend. According to the findings, the boleto system provides standardized and traceable receipts, which facilitate a more organized accounting process.
Moreover, the payment procedure involving boletos often includes multiple levels of approval, thereby mitigating risks associated with financial transactions. This feature is particularly beneficial for companies that handle a high volume of transactions, as it allows ample time for reviewing and approving payments.
Interestingly, some enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems do not offer comprehensive integration with Pix, further contributing to the preference for boletos. The research surveyed 400 businesses from diverse sectors, including services, food, technology, healthcare, and manufacturing, between September 23 and October 18, 2024. The companies ranged from small startups to large corporations with revenues exceeding R$ 300 million.
This data underscores a significant divergence between the payment preferences of individuals and businesses in Brazil. While the Pix system has gained considerable traction among consumers, especially for quick transactions, the traditional boleto method remains a staple for corporate financial operations.
