National Force Expands Operations in Rondônia Amid Rising Crime
The federal government has authorized the deployment of the National Force to Porto Velho, Rondônia, as part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the region. This deployment adds to a total of 71 operations currently being conducted nationwide by the National Force.
According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, these operations span twelve states and the Federal District. The National Force agents are actively working in areas including Pará, Maranhão, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima, Rondônia, Acre, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Amazonas, Mato Grosso do Sul, and the Federal District.
The missions undertaken by the National Force encompass a variety of critical areas, such as protecting indigenous lands, enforcing environmental regulations, securing borders, and maintaining public order. Specifically, these operations target illegal land occupation, illegal deforestation, wildlife poaching, and the trafficking of narcotics.
Among the 71 operations, 48 focus on ensuring security in indigenous territories, ten target environmental crimes, eight are dedicated to border security, and five aim to uphold public order. Notably, Porto Velho is the only city with active operations across three fronts: indigenous protection, environmental enforcement, and public order maintenance. Roraima stands out as the state where the National Force operates in every municipality.
The primary institution coordinating these missions is the Civil House of the Presidency, which has made 28 requests for support, followed by the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai) with 15 requests.
The National Force of Public Security operates as a Federative Cooperation Program, meaning it functions solely in support of other governmental institutions or entities. Its deployment is contingent upon formal requests made by state governors, the Federal District, or federal ministers, as stipulated by the relevant legal frameworks governing its operations.
