Majority of Brazilians Support Income Tax Exemption for Earnings Up to R$ 5,000

A recent survey conducted by Paraná Pesquisas reveals that a significant 67% of Brazilian respondents endorse the proposed exemption from Income Tax (IR) for individuals earning up to R$ 5,000. The poll, which included 2,018 voters across all 26 states and the Federal District, took place from January 7 to January 10, 2025. The margin of error for the survey is 2.2 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95%.

The proposed tax exemption has garnered a mostly positive response, with 23.2% of the participants expressing disapproval, while 9.8% remained undecided or did not provide an opinion on the matter.

Furthermore, the survey assessed the public's awareness of the government's announcement regarding the tax exemption. Approximately 60.8% of those surveyed reported being aware of the announcement made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's administration, while 39.2% indicated they were not informed.

This policy aims to alleviate the tax burden on lower-income earners, potentially affecting a substantial portion of the labor force in Brazil. By excluding those earning below R$ 5,000 from the Income Tax, the government seeks to provide financial relief and encourage economic activity among the working population.
